Milestones In Our Tradition of Caring
1858 - Daughters of Charity arrive in Santa Barbara. The first English speaking school and orphanage opened in Casa Aguirre Adobe.
1863 - St. Vincent's moves some of its services to Cieneguitas Ranch.
1873 - St. Vincent's opens infirmary in town.
1874 - St. Vincent's downtown building destroyed by fire. St. Vincent's rebuilds on De la Vina Street.
1883 - St. Vincent's celebrates 25th anniversary in Santa Barbara.
1887 - St. Vincent's is incorporated.
1906 - St. Vincent's closes day/boarding school.
1908 - St. Vincent's celebrates 50th anniversary in Santa Barbara.
1917 - St. Vincent's opens Day Nursery in downtown Santa Barbara.
1933 - St. Vincent's celebrates 75th anniversary in Santa Barbara.
1936 - St. Vincent's closes orphanage and opens residential school for Developmentally Disabled Children.
1958 - St. Vincent's celebrates 100th anniversary in Santa Barbara.
1968 - St. Vincent's builds new school for Developmentally Disabled Children.
1977 - Day Nursery downtown closes.
1983 - St. Vincent's celebrates 125th anniversary in Santa Barbara.
1985 - Large Spanish residence on Calle Real is replaced with individual cottages.
1994 - St. Vincent's opens residential program for adolescents on probation.
1995 - St. Vincent's closes program for Developmentally Disabled Children.
1996 - St. Vincent's opens transitional housing program for single mothers and children (PATHS).
1999 - St. Vincent's opens childcare program (Casa Alegria Children's Center).
2001 - St. Vincent's closes residential program for adolescents on probation.
2001 - St. Vincent's opens "Vincent's Heart" to provide needed food, clothing, and household items to residents.
2004 - Groundbreaking for St. Vincent's Gardens (75 units of family housing) and Villa Caridad (95 units of senior housing).
2007 - St. Vincent’s Gardens and Villa Caridad open.
2008 - St. Vincent's celebrates 150th anniversary in Santa Barbara.
2009 - St. Vincent's celebrates campus-wide Affordable Housing Dedication Ceremony.
2009 - Groundbreaking for St. Vincent's Community Garden, a sustainable garden for residents.
